Sherry Changaris Swim was born Betty Susan Collins in Tuskegee, Alabama in 1945. She was a gift to her
father, an Army Air Corps flight instructor, and loving mother. As a military brat, she saw many parts of
the country. Her teenage years culminated in her graduation from Winchester High School in
Massahusetts. As an undergraduate at University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she earned her
Bachelor of Arts degree in speech and drama. Soon after she found work in Washington D.C., first as a
highly regarded boutique window dresser, then as a lobbyist, ultimately as a staff member for vice
president Spiro Agnew. After helping her parents find a home in San Rafael, CA, she wandered into a
contract bridge tournament in Redding, California. Charles Swim saw her walk into that room and never
lost sight of her after that day. Two years later they married in 1979 while living in Chico, California.
Sherry was invited to become a partner in a printing business. In 1980, she opened PIP Printing in
Paradise, California. For four decades, Sherry poured her heart into Paradise, supporting youth
programs, veterans, and local businesses. She played a key role in placing flags along the Skyway in
honor of those who served and established PIP as a go-to ticket outlet for local events. She also
sponsored everything from youth soccer to ballet and music programs. Her countless contributions
included 35 years as a member of the Chamber of Commerce board, a past President of Rotary, founder
and Queen Mum of the Paradise Chocolate Fest, and a mentor and advocate for anyone that crossed
her threshold. As a member of Quota, Exchange and Moose clubs, she could be found any given day
gifting her time and energy to community; service always above self. She is survived by her son, John-
Steven Swim, her sister, Stephanie Bonar, her brother, Jeff Changaris, and countless other relatives. She
is preceded by her husband Charles H. Swim, retired Major U.S. Army, her parents, sister, and beloved
friends. A memorial will be held at 1pm on March 10 at the Chico Elks Lodge. All who knew Sherry are
invited to attend and help celebrate a life well-lived. We hope to see you there.
