Mildred F. Corchero, 98, formerly of Paradise, passed away on March 28, 2024.
Born in 1926 in Milwaukee, WI to Walter Martin and Emma Bischoff Martin, Millie was an only
child. The family moved to California in 1936. Millie grew up in Los Angeles and graduated
from Belmont High School in 1943.
Millie met Peter Corchero, who was in the Army Air Corp, at a friend's birthday party. They
married in 1944 and spent 75 years together until Pete's passing in 2019. Millie and Pete were
loving parents to their three children: James of Bakersfield, Barbara Karges (Steve) of
Scottsdale, AZ and Andrea Brinson (Jim) of Durham.
Millie completed her AA in Library Science and worked at the Fullerton City Library until Pete
retired in 1982 and they moved to Paradise. There they had their home built on Stark Lane,
where they loved the tall trees and wonderful neighbors. Millie volunteered at the Paradise
Library and for P.A.S.H. She and Pete were active members of the Paradise Lutheran
Church. Millie enjoyed traveling with Pete in their retirement; they had many Elderhostel
adventures, visited Corchero cousins in Spain and made other great travel memories that Millie
cherished.
When the Camp Fire hit, their wonderful neighbors helped Millie and Pete, now in their 90s,
escape the fire. Though they lost everything but their car and their "Go Bags," they still had each
other. Millie and Pete moved to The Inn at The Terraces in Chico, where Pete passed in
November 2019.
Millie is survived by her children, granddaughter Amber Hayes (Travis), great grandchildren Colt
and Tempe, all of Durham. She is also survived by several cousins, and many nieces and
nephews from Pete's side of the family. Millie was a loving and supportive wife and mother and
a devoted Christian. She instilled in all her children a great love for animals, music, books and
baseball.
Family would like to thank the staff at The Inn of the Terraces, as well as Butte Home Health &
Hospice, for their compassionate care of Millie.
Graveside services will be held Thursday August 8th at 10:00a.m.at the Paradise Cemetery, with reception following at the Paradise Lutheran Church. Arrangements are handled by Rose Chapel Mortuary of Paradise. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an animal rescue of your choice.
