Matt DeWayne Griffin – Obituary
Matt DeWayne Griffin Sr. “Wayne”, “Papa” died July 26th, 2021 at home after a short 10 days in Hospice in Oroville, California.
He was born September 3, 1935 in Independence, Kentucky to David Herbert and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Griffin. The family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio when Wane was a young boy.
Wayne entered the Military Reserves at the age of seventeen. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956 and served in Korea.
He moved to California in 1969. He was not afraid of hard work and was never without a job from his first, a newspaper route as a boy, to Commercial Construction Laborer and Foreman when he retired.
He never knew a stranger, had the gift of gab, was full of humor and loved to joke around and make others smile.
Wayne is survived by his wife Sarah Griffin, sons Matt DeWayne Jr., James Thomas, Eric Conrad and Douglas Wayne Griffin, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, nieces Carolyn Allgeyer, Maria Orth, Barbara Griffin VanHall, nephew John Kothe and many dear friends, including Martin and Christina Richie who have become family. He is preceded in death by two sons, David Wayne and Robert Wayne Griffin.
