Marjorie Jean Hammon of Oroville, California passed away on June 29, 2024 at the age of 92.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Davis Hammon Jr., mother Christine Hufford, father
Elmer Hufford, and sister Joy Lacey. She is survived by her two sons Davis and Scott
Hammon; her grandchildren Xochitl Lopez, Peter Hammon, Camron Eckerman and Masson
Hart; and her brother Peter Hufford.
In addition to her early career as a teacher at Palermo Elementary and later as a home school
tutor, Marge was a devoted wife and wonderful mother. When not supporting her children’s
activities she was active in the local chapters of AAUW and Omega Nu, the Friends of the
Library, numerous book clubs, the Oroville Community Center, served as chaperone for the
Oroville Teen Center and was a frequent host of bible studies. She was a lifelong patron of the
arts and enjoyed attending plays and symphonies and never met a craft fair she did not like. Her
hobbies included tennis, where she made lifelong friends; and travel including trips to Eastern
Europe shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
On July 16, 2024, a Celebration of Life will be held at Scheer Memorial Chapel, 2410 Foothill
Blvd in Oroville, California, commencing at 10:30 AM, followed by a brief internment at noon at
Oroville Cemetery District, located at 5646 Lincoln Boulevard. A reception following
internment will be held at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 550 Oro Dam Boulevard East.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Oroville chapters of AAUW Tech Trek or
Omega Nu.
