LeRoy R. Howard
Obituary- November 23, 1943 to May 26, 2023
Roy was born in San Francisco, CA, raised by his Portuguese maternal grandparents and Mother Shirley
who lived outside of Golden Gate Park. He attended St. Gabriel’s for his elementary education, then
after the family moved to Santa Clara, went onto Fremont High School near Los Gatos where he fell in
love with swimming becoming All American and became part of swimming Polo Team in College and
even the Navy All American Polo Team.
Graduating in 1964 he enlisted in the Navy becoming a CORP MAN for the duration of his military stay
during the Vietnam War. His life became a “true story” after the Service as he returned to Foothill
College supporting himself working at many venues of jobs, including Balboa Hospital in San Francisco.
Due to a bout with Hepatitis, he had to leave school and became a grocery store clerk working with
produce for Lucky and Albertsons, it was during this period that he married and became a Dad to Lora
Howard Ginn, who gave Roy 7 beautiful grandchildren; Kayla, Samantha, Amanda, Terrilyn, Cheyenne,
Dustin and Tyler. At last count there are six great-grandchildren and one on the way!
Upon moving to San Jose during the late ‘70s he became employed by Pepsi Cola, Inc. as a truck driver
and was promoted to a Presales Product Manager, where he often became “Employee of the Month”.
Our “Man of the House” blended his family with that of Tina Howard and her four children in San Jose in
1989; Catherine Ann (deceased), Karla, Melissa & Damon (at last count the family added 4 grandchildren
and 4 greats) and as they grew and left the nest he prepared to retire. Roy, Tina and Karla moved to
Magalia from Livermore, CA in 2009. Enjoying the best of Magalia’s retirees, the POA, the golf course
and the Parish of St. Thomas More in Paradise, CA.
Finally, finding God’s Peace & Joy, until we are with him again!
