Joanne Davis Obituary

Joanne Lee Davis

February 14, 1933 – February 3, 2020

Joanne Lee Davis was born on February 14, 1933 to John Henry Davis and Martha Alice Eldridge.  She died on February 3, 2020 at Prestige Assisted Living Home in Chico, CA.

Joanne was raised in Costa Mesa, CA.  She graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1952.

She attended Orange Coast College.  She attended Reno University in order to earn a certificate to teach on a ranch.  Her first teaching job was outside of Tonopah, NV.  The school was a one room schoolhouse.  The grades were 1st – 8th.  This type of teaching was very special to her.

Joanne moved back to California to earn her CA teaching credential.  Her first job was in Oxnard.  She taught at this school for 5 years.  In 1971, Joanne was invited to Yosemite to teach.  This was another favorite place she lived.  The last school she taught at was Maxwell Elementary in Maxwell, CA.

When she retired, Joanne moved to Paradise, CA to live with her elderly mother.  Her retirement days were spent doing art, crafts and music.  Joanne played the piano and the guitar.  Her talents included knitting, crocheting, painting, pottery and sewing.  One of her best wood-working projects entailed the creation of a beautiful black walnut desk.  Joanne’s love of teaching and God led her to teach Sunday School when she retired.

Joanne loved to travel.  She visited Hawaii, England, and Mexico (an art/glass class she took with Cousin Alice).

Preceded in death was her beloved mother, Alice Davis.  Joanne is survived by her sister Lola Neff; nephew John Neff and his son Jared Neff; nephew David Neff & his wife, Jaime along with their 2 children Jacob Neff and Nicole Neff; and many cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 12:00 pm in the Choir Room of Paradise Alliance Church, 6491 Clark Road, Paradise, CA.  Her ashes will be laid to rest at the family ranch cemetery in Baker, Nevada (after the ground thaws).

Memorials include:  Alzheimer’s Fund; Paradise Alliance Church Fire Victims Dinner Project (at the church every Thursday evening).
