Jerry Edward Shields was born October 6th, 1938 in Tulare, Ca. His parents were Mary and Eddie Shields. Jerry had two sisters; Barbara who was three years older than him and Marilyn who was three years younger than him. Jerry grew up in Lake Wyandotte and attended Oroville High School, which he graduated from in 1956. Jerry was married to Willadene Prater in 1957. Jerry was in the Army from 1961 to 1963 when he was honorably discharged. Jerry and Willadene are survived by their daughters Julie and Tina. They also have two grandsons, Shane Simmons and Jae Shields; and a great grand-daughter Leona Simmons. Jerry was an avid hunter; hunting in all eleven Northern states, Canada, and Alaska. Jerry also loved to fish and fished all those states and the Guadalupe Islands. His favorite fishing hole was Lake Oroville. Jerry had a favorite companion, that was his dog Tami, a Britney Spaniel; the breed of dogs he had from the time he was seventeen until he died at eighty-seven. Jerry was a butcher and worked in several local markets until he bought his own market “Jerry’s Market”. He owned the market for 30 years. Jerry also loved to go on ride-a-longs with the Sheriff’s Dept., Oroville Police Dept., CA Fish and Game, Hwy Patrol and State Police. He really enjoyed getting to know all the officers and doing his part. Retired at 73, Jerry had 2 jobs, he cut meat at Robertsons and worked security at Gold Country Casino. He loved his job at the casino. Jerry was a member of the Church of Christ in Oroville. There will be a memorial for Jerry at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 20th, at Grace Chapel Church, 1940 Feather River Blvd, Suite B. Arrangements have been entrusted to Scheer Memorial Chapel.
