Jerry Rodney Powell

Jerold “Jerry “ R. Powell passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.  He was born November 6, 1936 in Effingham, Illinois to Carl and Marie Powell.  

His early days were spent on the farm with his 4 brothers and 1 sister.   His family moved from Illinois to California in the eary 1950’s and then back to Illinois. 

It was in Kankakee, Illinois that he met his future wife Sandra Lambert.  They met because his brother was married to her sister so they followed their footsteps and married on August 20,1955, they would have been married 66 years this month.  They had 1 son and decided to head again to California to join the other family members that had came west and settled in Orange where they had 2 more sons and 1 daughter. 

Jerry learned the painting trade and that began his career of owning his own painting companies.  The family moved to Paradise in 1970 where his siblings had settled.  He started Powell Painting Inc. where he continued to run the company until his retirement in 2008, he resided in Paradise until his death.

 Jerry enjoyed motorcycles, working on and refurbishing old cars and traveling.  He and Sandy traveled to Disneyland almost yearly which was their favorite place to be.

 He is survived by his wife Sandy of Paradise, son Jon Powell (Theresa) and daughter Joy Miller (Val).  7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, brother Don and many nieces and nephews.  Jerry was preceded in death by his son Jerry Powell Jr., his parents, brothers Carl, Dean , Richard and sister Ramonda Henderson.

 Jerry will be remembered with a  grave side service at the Paradise cemetary on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 10am.
