Hazel Elaine Root 

Hazel Elaine Root,89 passed away on February 17, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. Hazel Elaine was born in Springer, New Mexico to Theron and Ada Rogers; she moved with her family in 1935 to Gridley, CA where she attended school. 

On May 23, 1946 she married the love of her life, Marvin Root; they were married for 54 years until his passing in 2000. Hazel and Marvin moved their burgeoning family to their beloved Paradise in 1956 where she lived until moving to Yuba City in 2014 to be closer to family. 

Hazel Elaine is survived by her loving children, Linda Corbett, Laura (Greg) Ward, Luann Wallick, David (Deborah) Root, Diane (Jim) Giddings, Dan (Miriam) Root, Jennifer (Oscar) Scholz.  She was extremely proud of her 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by siblings Margaret Martin, Wilma Rogers, Raymond Rogers, and Yvonne Durand and is survived by Jim Rogers, Gene Rogers, John Rogers, and Sandra Cunningham. 

Hazel Elaine’s joy, love and purpose was her family. She will be remembered as a beloved mother and grandmother and great grandmother but her warm smile and kind demeanor endeared her to many of her children and grandchildren's close friends, making her a grandmother and mother to many. 

Hazel Elaine was a woman of strong faith who loved nothing more than baking a pie or cake or cookies or cinnamon rolls for family gatherings or camping trips. She was known for her renowned baking, canning and sewing skills. Her greatest joy was found in the outdoors; either in her robust garden, sitting around a campfire, enjoying a good book or just being enveloped by sunshine. 

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 23 at 1pm at the Paradise Cemetery; it is coordinated by Rose Chapel, Paradise. COVID protocols will be adhered to. Donations may be made to Hazel’s favorite charity, Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital c/o Hazel Elaine Root Memorial Fund.
