Gregory Ghica
Obituary
Gregory Ghica, 86, died on November 14, 2022 at Enloe Hospital. His surviving family members include his son Andre Bargaoanu and wife Fabiene, his widow Cheryl Monteith-Ghica, stepson Jason Beliakoff and family including wife Ghezal and children Samaan, Arshan, and Brecken, stepdaughter Danya Beliakoff Reynolds and family including husband Scott, and children Nathan, Kyle, and Elena. Greg was born in Sibiu, Romania, to Scarlat and Tita Maria Ghica. There he attended The Institute of Sports and played professional soccer in the second division. He immigrated to the U.S. to escape Communism in 1969 when he was 33 years old. Greg received a Masters Degree in Physical Education from UC Berkeley and a second Masters Degree in Political Science from Long Beach State College. He taught political science, physical education, and coached soccer at Golden West College, Huntington Beach, CA. Greg stayed in close touch with his Romanian contacts. He particularly enjoyed political discussions, live theater, traveling, and the company of his dear family and friends.
