David L. Hilst of Yankee Hill, CA, passed peacefully to the Lord on December 23, 2019. He died after several years of cardio failure, including an inherited ventricular tachycardia disease and then just a weakened heart.
David was born and raised in Central Illinois and served in the United States Navy. He started his career in the Chicago computer world with IBM and graduated from San Jose State with an MBA after moving to California in 1970. He started with an Anaheim company, CAL-COMP, and later moved to the Bay Area with Memorex. He then started a business brokerage valuing and selling small businesses. He and wife, Terry, moved from Los Gatos to Yankee Hill in 1996 to "avoid the crowds" and traffic.
Always loving an adrenaline rush, David enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles and spent much time in sports such as skiing (snow and water), sky-diving, gliders, ultra-lights and light-sports-aircraft and a very passionate five years racing open wheeled Formula Ford cars on tracks up and down the west coast. David also enjoyed golfing three to five time a week with his many friends at Butte Creek Country Club.
Surviving is a wonderful wife of 44 years together, Terry, and two children, Will and Cindy and their spouses, and three grandchildren, Wylie, Ivan, and Katarina. Two younger sisters, Cheryl and Linda, and their spouses, along with younger brother, Steven, will miss their older brother.
David was cremated and a private family ceremony will be held at his church, Our Savior Lutheran in Paradise. There will be a "Celebration of Life" late summer of 2020 at Butte Creek Country Club.
