Betty Guild Obituary

At the age of 92 years and eight months our sweet and
loving Betty Jane Guild passed away in the comfort of her
own home in Oroville, California on the morning of
August 2, 2018 with loved ones holding her hands. The
fifth of ten children, Betty was born to Richard and
Flossie Murrill on December 2, 1925 in Burbank, CA.
Childhood was a carefree, exciting and fun filled season of
Betty’s long life. In the early 1940s the Murrill family
migrated to northern California settling in the then small
community of Carmichael where Betty worked alongside
her Dad and Brothers making concrete building
blocks which they used to construct homes. It was during
this time Betty began working for the DMV in Sacramento.
One evening in 1947 found Betty, a talented and
passionate roller skater, at a roller rink in North Sacramento accompanied by her younger siblings,
Jerry and Darlene. The beautiful, petite and strikingly graceful brunette caught the attention of a
handsome, young Frank Guild recently discharged from the U.S. Air Force. His kind manner and
winning smile so impressed Betty that she accepted Frank’s offer to drive the three home at the
close of the memorable evening. Thus began a beautiful and enduring love story. The couple was
married on July 4, 1947. Settling in Citrus Heights Frank worked at Mather AFB while Betty made
a loving home for her husband and three boys, Ronnie, “Buddy” and Randy. The Guilds were
instrumental in starting the Rocklin General Baptist Church where the family worshipped for
many years. Frank was a deacon and Betty taught Sunday school. They enjoyed serving as counselors
at annual summer youth camps. An early retirement provided Frank and Betty opportunity to
pursue their love of traveling. While pulling various trailers or driving small motor homes the retirees
visited all but two of the continental United States as well as Canada, Alaska and Mexico. Each
fall they left their home in Cedar Grove to winter in their Air-Stream trailer at Lost Lake Resort
on the Colorado River in the Southern California desert. Very social and outgoing, Betty and Frank
made many good and lasting friendships in this “Snowbird” community. Following Frank’s passing
in 2003 Betty dedicated much time to genealogy. She purchased a computer and compiled several
books of family history complete with pictures and statistics dating back many generations.
During her last days Betty spoke often of being reunited with “My Frank” at the gate where he
promised to await her arrival. That long anticipated goal has been met. Betty’s hope and prayer
was for her friends and family to join them where, together, she and Frank will wait for us at the
gate.
Betty is survived by Sons: Charles “Buddy” (and Pam) and Randy (and Reanne), Grandchildren
Charles Jr. “Chuckie” (and Mona), Michelle “Shelly” and Sarah (and Jason), Great Grandchildren:
Mallory, CJ, Tabitha, Rusty, Ethan and Gavin and Sister: Darlene (and Lee). She was preceded by:
Husband, Frank, Son: Ronald, Parents: Richard and Flossie Murrill, one sister and seven brothers.
Our loving and precious Betty Jane Guild will long be remembered and forever remain in our
hearts.
Special thanks to Feather River Hospice and Care Providers, Bonnie Colbert and Ashlie Hawthorne for
providing extraordinary comfort and care in Betty’s final days.
