Robert Cardinal Obituary

Robert L. Cardinal passed away on March 10, 2018 with his wife and family by his side. “Bob” was born in Petersburg, Indiana on July 2, 1933 to Shirley and Peter Cardinal. He was the 8th child of a family of 11 children. While growing up he fished, hunted squirrels and worked on his sister, Vera’s farm during the summer.
He joined the Air Force at the early age of 17 and served 4 years. He was with the 59th Fighter Squadron, where he was an airplane mechanic, and spent time in Goose Bay, Labrador and Thule, Greenland.
Bob met his wife, Queena, at a dance neither of them wanted to attend, in September, 1954 while stationed at March Air Force Base in Riverside, CA. Bob always said it was fate. They were married the following year, June 11, 1955.
He went to work for Southern Pacific Pipeline Co. in 1957 in Colton, CA. He was later transferred to Phoenix, AZ for 3 years. He was transferred again and moved his wife and daughter, Tammy, to Lakewood, CA. While there his second daughter, Tracy was born. After several more moves, he settled in Concord, CA for 23 ½ years where he retired in 1990 as District Manager for the Pipeline Company now known as Kinder Morgan.
Bob always loved going home to Indiana for family reunions to spend time with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed fishing, camping, teaching his girls to water ski, golfing, taking his family to Mammoth Mountain and Mt. Bachelor to snow ski and playing his Martin guitar. His nephew Tom (Arlene) joined in many of the activities with the family.
Bob & Queena moved to Oroville in May, 1991 to be by a lake so he could continue his love of fishing and golfing. He designed their home and had it build in 1991 and liked taking his dogs for walks and watching any sports shows that might be on. He was very proud of his daughters and grandsons and Holiday celebrations together were a favorite.
He leaves behind his wife, Queena, of 62 ½ years; daughters Tammy (Keith), grandson Brett, Tracy (Don) grandsons, Derek (Claire) and Ross.
He is preceded in death by brothers Orville, Joe, Leon, Bill; sisters Mildred, Vera & Betty. He is survived by his brother Dave, (Patt), and two sisters, Katy Allison and Martha Paxton.
Services will be held at Foothill Community Church, 2475 Foothill Blvd., Oroville, CA, on March 24, 2018 at 11:00am.
