JOHN SYLVESTER Obituary

John Orlin Sylvester born June 22, 1929 to Louis Sylvester and Celina (Fontnot) Sylvester in Grand Prairie, Louisiana.  He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1948 and worked as a heavy equipment operator helping to build and maintain the Airstrips, John finished his eight years in the military at Camp Beale (Beale Air Force Base).  In 1956 he went to work for the Feather River Pine Mill in Feather Falls, California where he continued to work in the lumber industry as the company became Georgia Pacific then Louisiana Pacific.  He worked in the Sawmill, Shipping for thirty-three years.  He retired in 1988 and lived in Palermo, California.  During his lifetime he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting.  He loved golfing and pitching horseshoes, bowling at Central Lanes.  He was a pretty good pool player also.  He excelled at Pitching horseshoes and was inducted in the Horseshoe hall of fame.  John belonged to the Palermo and Willows horseshoe club.  His football teams are the New Orleans Saints and Raiders.  Cajun and country music were his favorite.  "Till we saw you some more"!

John is survived by his brother; Benny Sylvester, Two sons; John A. Sylvester and Steven L. Loob, Son in law; Thomas A. Oxford, Daughters; Johnna Oxford and Mary Mathis, Grandsons; Robert W. Mathis and Adam L. Oxford, Granddaughters; Brandy Mathis, Samantha Oxford, Misty Nissen, Tamika Elam, Stephanie Oxford, Great-grandsons; Thomas D. Oxford, Tyler Nissen, Troy Nissen, Landon Elam, Great-granddaughters; Lilith Bias and Madison G. Oxford.  Numerous nieces and nephews in South Louisiana.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd from 4-8 PM at Scheer Memorial Chapel.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 4th at 11:30 AM with a Rosary at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Oroville.
